Can unshredded metal scrap be cleared at any ICD port?
No. Under DGFT regulations, unshredded metallic scrap can only be imported through designated ports that have installed portal-type radiation monitors and container scanners. In Delhi NCR, ICD Tughlakabad (INTKD6) is the primary authorized inland clearance port.
What happens if an imported scrap container triggers a radiation alert?
If radiation exceeds permissible background thresholds, the container is immediately isolated in a designated safety zone, and customs notifies the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) and Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) for detailed isotopic spectroscopic analysis.
